About Pilates

Originally named Contrology, ‘Pilates’ is an exercise system formulated by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900’s. Pilates devised a series of exercise and training techniques, specifications and engineered equipment to teach his methods correctly and safely. His original practices have been developed and in some ways adapted over time to ensure the fundamental principles continue to benefit everyone, today.

The Pilates method of exercise is a unique system of stretching and strengthening resulting in a body that is stronger, well aligned and better balanced. It is a precise and intuitive way of moving that allows muscles to work in isolation and in perfect physical alignment without any stress or strain.

“Pilates develops body awareness, improving and changing the body’s postural and alignment habits, also increasing flexibility and ease of movement”.

Pilates elicits tangible results whether undertaken as a sole activity or included to compliment and enhance a more varied exercise program. Pilates is suitable and beneficial for any shape, size, age and ability. Pilates is an extremely safe form of exercise recommended by many medical specialists. It is an invaluable and incredibly effect form of exercise for injury or operation pre and rehabilitation and can have great success improving many physical and neurological conditions.
